Recovery of 4 COVID-19 Patients via Ozonated Autohemotherapy (MAH) – scientific journal
Medical ozone therapy delivered in the form of an autohemotherapy (MAH) is nothing new. Its administration delivers a much needed boost of oxygen which then triggers immune modification, infection control and increased tissue oxygen utilization.

Medical ozone therapy is equally applicable in animals that suffer from many systemic illness. Such illness share one common impact on the body which is a continuous erosion of the body’s ability to utilize oxygen. Medical ozone therapy provides rapid oxygen replenishment with effects that can last several days, unlike oxygen delivered by mask which lasts all but several minutes.

Here is the advisory document from the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and joint statement issued by the Hong Kong Veterinary Association (HKVA) + Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) + veterinary experts from City University regarding this matter and the responsibility of pet keeping.

Isoxazoline Flea & Tick Products – Potential Adverse Events
Isoxazoline class of flea and tick products include these brand names:
- Bravecto
- Credilio
- Nexguard
- Simparica
The FDA has issues a warning fact sheet with basic information regarding this class of chemical. The FDA maintains that these products and the class of chemical is safe for use in animals. However, there may be occasional animal that exhibits signs of sensitivity related to neurological adverse reactions.
Such neurological adverse reactions (in dogs and cats) listed by the FDA include:
- muscle tremors
- ataxia
- seizure

The Hong Kong Drugs Office had previously issued a notice regarding modification in the labeling of Bravecto as instructed by European Medicines Agency (EMA) to include possible risk of convulsion. For more details please click this link.
Bravecto 是屬於化學物質 Isoxazoline 的其中一種用作防蚤及牛蜱的動物用產品. 自2017年香港政府藥物辦公室已有刊憲關於Bravecto的潛在風險. 歐洲藥物管理局 (European Medicines Agency – EMA) 於2017年要求了Bravecto 製造商於産品説明中加入「抽搐」為其中之一的副作用. 幸好, 此副作用非常「罕見」定義為一萬隻用此產品的動物中少過一隻或許有機會產生「抽搐」反應. 歐洲藥物管理局提及到主人應該考慮避免用Bravecto 產品於有癲癇症的動物身上.
美國食品藥物管理局 (FDA)2018年9月刊憲關於Bravecto的潛在風險, 提到有其他類似產品可以產生差不多的副作用. 所見的都是跟神經系統有關的症狀包括:
- 肌肉震顫 (muscle tremors)

Wellness Pet Food Class Action – Filed July 2017; continues in 2018
(Updated 12 October 2018) + Wellness Pet Food (Dog) is sold in HK!
Wellness Pet Food – producer of pet food lines including Wellness Core was challenged with a Class Action Lawsuit in July 2017.
The Lawsuit alleged that Wellness Pet Food Dog Food series were contaminated with lead 鉛, arsenic 砒霜 and Bisphenol A 酚甲烷 (BPA). Specific dog foods from Wellness brand were tested by the plaintiffs, including:
- Wellness CORE Adult Dry Ocean Whitefish, Herring Meal and Salmon Meal (“CORE Ocean”) [FOOD 1]
- Wellness Complete Health Adult Dry Whitefish and Sweet Potato [FOOD 2]
According to the FDA in the United States, the allowable limits of these “contaminants” are:
Arsenic 砒霜
- 10 parts per billion (ppb 十億分率) in apple juice
- [FOOD 1] contained 1,500 ppb of arsenic
- [FOOD 2] contained 1,200 ppb of arsenic
- That is, more than TEN times (10x) the allowable amount
Lead 鉛
- 5 parts per billion (ppb 十億分率) in bottled water
- [FOOD 1] contained 221 ppb of lead
- [FOOD 2] contained 220 ppb of lead
- That is, more than FORTY times (40x) the allowable amount
Bisphenol A (BPA) 酚甲烷
- Wellness CORE Ocean Product [FOOD 1] was found to contain “material and significant levels of BPA
Briefly, arsenic (inorganic) can contribute to serious illnesses and diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, brain function and immunity.
Meanwhile, Lead is classified as “probably carcinogenic to humans” (cancer causing) by The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and can impact on the body’s development, reproductive ability and nervous system to name a few.
Lastly, BPA is quoted as “an industrial chemical that is an endocrine disruptor… linked to various health issues, including reproductive disorders, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and neurological problems”.
This Class Action Lawsuit does not address Wellness Cat Food quality.
Solid Gold Class Action – Filed July 2018
A Class Action has been filed in July 2018 against the pet food company Solid Gold Pet, LLC.
The filing alleges contamination of BPA, heavy metal, chemicals, and/or toxins. The filing also alleges “fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation” of its food products.

Increased awareness and diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy – drastically low plasma Taurine levels

The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has issued a brief that updates on an increased number of cases of Dilated Cardiomyopathy. These cases in dogs are not presented in a routine manner, as affected dogs are not typically, genetically predisposed to Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

Greyhounds’ lives are probably little to no different to race horses. They train and they are raced to win. Very likely, when one is deemed unsuccessful, the greyhound gets put-down (euthanized). Greyhounds can be re-homed when they are retired and they can make wonderful companions.
Check out the link above and join in the petition to rescues these dogs. If they are not rescued, they will likely be euthanized. Currently, very little greyhounds get to leave the city once retired.
